These are some of the books, links, and tools that have helped our family on this road. I’ll keep adding to this page as we go.
The Catechism
Catechism of the Catholic Church
It was the Prologue that I accidentally stumbled upon one day — a Facebook link someone shared that I almost scrolled past. I had no idea what I was clicking on. But it changed everything.
Books
The Catholic Bible: The Great Adventure — Your Journey Through the Bible — Ascension Press
I appreciate the slightly larger text and the helpful introductions and articles before each milestone in Scripture. It gives you context and grounding before you step into each section of the Bible, which has made a real difference in how I read it.
Born Fundamentalist, Born Again Catholic by David B. Currie
The first book I picked up as a questioning Protestant — and it met me exactly where I was. Currie walks through the fears and misunderstandings Protestants carry about the Catholic Church and answers them one by one from Scripture. It felt like finally having permission to ask the questions I’d been afraid to ask.
Celebrating Eucharist: A Mass Book for Children — Twenty-Third Publications
Adults use it too — don’t let the title fool you.
The Story of All Stories: A Story Bible for Young Catholics — Word on Fire
Our family reads a little of this together every night.
Our Home, Our Church by Charles L. Covington (aka Father Larry)
Father Larry was a friend of my husband’s and the first priest we ever sat down with. When we didn’t know what to do with everything we were learning, he quietly pointed us toward our next step: an OCIA class. We will always be grateful for that conversation.
“We Believe”: A Survey of the Catholic Faith by Oscar Lukefahr
A simplified, accessible version of the Catechism. Our first OCIA director, Amy Allert, used this as part of our curriculum during our OCIA sessions. If the full Catechism feels overwhelming at first, this is a wonderful place to start.
Online Resources
The Coming Home Network chnetwork.org
A network dedicated to helping Protestant Christians discover Catholicism and make the journey home. Their conversion stories, videos, and resources were some of the most encouraging things I found during our own journey — especially during the harder moments. I keep coming back to this one.
Catholic Answers — catholic.com
The go-to resource for understanding what Catholics believe and why. Great for looking up specific questions quickly and clearly.
Word on Fire — wordonfire.org
Bishop Robert Barron’s ministry — beautiful, intellectually rich content about the Catholic faith. His videos are some of the most accessible introductions to Catholicism available.
EWTN — ewtn.com
The largest Catholic media network. A wide range of programming, articles and resources covering all aspects of Catholic life and faith.
Formed — formed.org
A Catholic streaming platform — movies, documentaries, talks and studies. Many parishes offer free access so worth checking with your parish first.
I would love to hear your comments or resource ideas.
